In an effort to ensure equal child rights without discrimination, the international children’s organisation ‘Kochi Konther Asar’ submitted separate memorandums to Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Regional Office of the United Nations, UNICEF, and the US Embassy.
To celebrate ‘World Children's Day and World Children's Week 2024,’ Kochi Konther Asar has planned a week-long series of events, including a joy rally, art competition, cultural programs, a press conference, and the distribution of quality food among children.
Md Kaiyum Khan, Secretary General of the Central Executive Committee of Kochi Konther Asar, responded to questions from journalists in front of the UNICEF office before submitting the memorandum.
He said, “Children all over the world, including in Bangladesh, are being subjected to various forms of abuse. Especially in war-torn coun tries, children are enduring severe hardships.”
As an example, he mentioned the recent uprisings where many children were injured and killed.
Hemayet Hossain, the organisation’s founder, added, “Children in Bangladesh and many other countries are still being denied their rightful and basic rights. Even in matters of basic rights, inequality is evident.”
He also raised concerns about street children not receiving proper facilities in government hospitals.
Following brief speeches, the organisation submitted a memorandum containing their demands, supported by a UNICEF rally and road march led by a group of child representatives.
Later, at 11 am, a special memorandum on behalf of children was presented to the Chief Advisor’s office. After lunch, further memorandums were submitted to the United Nations and the US Embassy.
