Kishoreganj UP polls held peacefully

In Kishoreganj's Sadar, Nikli and Kuliyarchar Upazila's 23 Union Parishad voting was held in a festive atmosphere. However, electoral violence has been observed in several centers in Latiabad, Mohinanda Union of Kishoreganj Sadar. At least 15 people have been injured in election violence in Mohinanda Union.

It is learned that supporters of the Nouka snatched ballot papers and seals from the center at Katabaria AR Khan High School in Latiabad Union of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila. Voting at the center was later postponed. 

Law and order forces brought it under control when Nouka supporters repeatedly tried to disrupt the procession at two centers in Mohinanda Union.

Voting is being held in 11 unions in Sadar upazila, 7 in Nikli upazila and 5 in Kuliarchar upazila. Voters lined up at various centers even before the morning polls began. 55 candidates are contesting in 11 unions of Sadar upazila, 36 candidates in 7 unions of Nikli upazila and 34 candidates in 5 unions of Kuliarchar upazila.

District Election Officer Mohammad Ashraful Alam said a large number of police, BGB, Ansar and VDP members have been deployed to ensure peaceful polling. Each center has a sub-inspector of police, 5 policemen and 6 Ansar members. 

The members of these forces are working in the field with the mobile court and as different striking teams. Moreover, three police patrol teams are stationed in the field in each union. The total number of voters is 4 lakh 57 thousand 308 people.
