Kishoreganj municipality is one of the oldest municipalities in the country. This municipality, which was established on April 1, 1869, has not yet received a touch of modernized development. It goes without saying that the facilities that the citizens are supposed to get as a resident of an 'A' class municipality are not available here.
At present, more than 3 lakh people are living under Kishoreganj municipal area. However, the municipal authorities believe that, of them the number of non-citizens will exceed one lakh. The municipality also has to deal with various pressures of the daily needs of the additional population along with the original residents of the municipal area.
The Narsunda river flowing through the municipal area was once a pretty mighty river. Many used to make a living by boating on this rive while, many others used to hunt various species of fish there.
However, all of that is now in the past. The river is now a source of foul-smelling toxic liquid waste.
