The country’s leading promoter of debate and also the Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Kiran was awarded in recognition of his glorious contribution to visually impaired children and protection of child rights, says a press release.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam and Secretary to cultural affairs ministry Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal jointly handed over the special award to Kiran at a concert organised for child rights awareness at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh auditorium at Farmgate in the capital on Friday evening.
The concert was jointly organised by Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI) and Rights and Sight for Children (RSC), aiming to raise voice against child abuse and protect the rights of children.
Eminent singer Sabina Yasmin, DCI advocate Hassan Abidur Reja Jewel, DCI’s SunChild Musical Group, Benuka Institute of Fine Arts were also present in the concert and put up a mesmerising performance, the press release added. DCI executive director Dr Ehsan Huq delivered the welcome speech at the programme also addressed by the cultural affairs secretary, DNCC mayor, and ATN Bangla senior vice-president Tashik Ahmed. They all pledged to stand beside underprivileged children in collaboration with DCI and RSC to help improve their lives. Renowned actor and DCI Goodwill Ambassador Babita Akhter welcomed the guests via a video message.
“It has been an honour for me to be a part of DCI. I am very impressed by the cutting-edge work DCI is doing for underprivileged Bangladeshi children and infants. DCI has my full support. Let’s join our efforts. Together, we can make a new Bangladesh free from child labor completely,” said Atiqul Islam. Mentionable, Distressed Children and Infants International is a US based international non-profit child rights organisation established at Yale University with a mission to protect child rights, prevent child labor and blindness. Sabina started his performance with her hugely popular track ‘Railliner Dharey’ at 9:00pm. One by one, she sang ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’, ‘Dukkho Valobese’ and a number of her famous songs.
