Kings triumph fifth crown

Bashundhara Kings were crowned champions of Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League football for the fifth time in only their five years after defeating second-placed Mohammedan Sporting Club on Sunday.

Bashundhara Kings completed the triumph when the coach Oscar Bruzon’s glittering reign for last five years, appeared with a high note at the Mohamemdan’s home ground, Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh.  

Kings are 12 points clear with second positioned Mohammedan to triumph the title just three games remaining.

Dorielton, the top scorers for Kings with 13th goals in 15 matches, scored both the goals for Kings that sealed the victory.   

Bruzon’s sides have lost just one match and drew one (up to 15th match) in the ongoing league on their way to securing the club's fifth league title, trailing one to record winners Abahani Limited, won six times.

Brazilian forward Miguel Damaseceno’s goals have powered Kings’ championship success when he netted twice of the campaign to wrap up their victory.

It is the fifth league trophy in a row brought to the club by Bruzon, who has been leading Kings to glory in the successive five seasons also. 

However, Miguel Damaceno initiated the scoring in the 18th minute when Kings were dominating the possessions. From a combined attack, built up through the midway, Morsalin delivered a cross and Miguel edged past the markers before shot past the Mohammedan keeper Sujon (1-0).

After King’s leading the match early hour, Mohammedan trying to bounce back and playing almost evenly in the first 45 minutes game, could not make any real threat.

But the Black White trailing by 0-1 first half, conceded another goal on 52nd minute with Miguel scoring his 13th goal. This time also the goal initiated from Morsalin when the national forward’s pin-pointed flank kick found Miguel closer to the post, who headed home giving the MSC keeper no chance (2-0). 

After conceding the second goal, Mohammedan became more hostile and pressing high on Kings hinted to come back with reducing one goal on 65th minute.

This time it was a strong move with captain Soleymane Diabate, Mozaffarov and Akmol Hossain Noyon and the latter with a superb effort went into the box. Munir Hossain made the last pass to onrushing Noyon, who beat Kings advancing custodian Mehdi Hassan Srabon with a placing shot. 

Noyon created the opportunity for Mohammedan to halt the 

Kings but Emon and Mozaffarov having two clear chances failed to utilise.

On 69th minute Shahrer Emon and Mozaffarov wasted the successive opportunities came to their ways. Emon amde the blunder when he shot the ball straight to goalkeeper in one on one situation. Mozaffarov could not keep his cool as he shot the ball to a defenders’ body but to placing.
