Kings’ struggling win against Fortis, Mohammedan drub Brothers

Reigning Champions Bashundhara Kings earned a hard-fought win against Fortis FC in the 12th round of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football.

Held at Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium, Rajshahi on Saturday, Brazilian midfielder Miguel Ferreira scored the all-important goal for Kings in the 23rd minute to salvaged the champions. It is Miguel’s sixth goals in the league.  

Bashundhara Kings, who dominated the possessions, produced lot of scoring chances but the strikers failed to utilize. After the win, Bashundhara Kings improved their tally to 31 points from 12 matches with 10 wins, one draw and a defeat while Fortis FC’s collection are 13 points from 12 outings. 

Kings maintain their unbeaten run in six matches in a row and it was fifth defeat for Fortis FC in the ongoing league. 

In the days other two matches, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Chittagong Abahani won their respective matches at the different venues across the country. 

Captain Soleymane Diabate struck five goals, as Federation Cup champions Mohammedan Sporting Club, the only team maintained their unbeaten record in the ongoing league, just drubbed Brothers Union by 8-0 at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh. Apart from five goals from the captain, the Malian striker Diabate, forward Shahriar Emon, Jewel Mia and Nigerian defender Emmanuel Tony Agbali scored one goal apiece. 

Forward Emon broke the deadlock for the Black and Whites in the 34th minutes of the match. Diabate scored his first and teams second goal just before the finish the first half. 

Diabate scored his second goal in the injury time of the first- half. Mohammedan took lead 3-0 in the first half. Black and Whites became more aggressive in the second half with Diabate completed his hattrick on 68th minutes. Midfielder Jafar Iqbal crossed the ball inside the area and  Diabate pushed the ball into net (4-0) and netted the teams fifth and his fourth goal in the 72nd minutes. 

Midfielder Jewel Mia scored the sixth for Mohammedan in the 75th minutes, Emmanuel Tony made it 7-0 on 87th. 

Diabate closed sheet one minute on 89th minutes after scoring his fifth.  

Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani secured full three points defeating Rahmatganj MFS by 2-1 goals at Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Lieutenant Matir Rahman Stadium on the same day. 

Striker Paul Seun Komolate and defender Mohammed Rayhan Hasan scored for the port city club while forward Ernest Boateng reduced the margin for Rahmatganj.
