‘Khaleda Zia: A biography of Democracy’

Professor Kazi Kayum Shishir, born on the 23rd of December in 1967 to Kazi Asaduzzaman and Hajera Khatun into a noble Muslim family in the serene village of Kulkandi, Islampur, Jamalpur, is a figure of remarkable academic and political influence. Now he is an inhabitant of Dewanganj, Jamalpur. 

As a veteran professor of English literature, he has always been at the peak of popularity. His contributions to literary criticism are equally noteworthy.

He writes a book titled ‘Khaleda Zia: A biography of Democracy’, where he described overall political and personal life of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

The book will help the readers to enrich their knowledge regarding politics of BNP and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and his family members.

Prof. Kayum's academic journey began with a merit scholarship in 1976 at Zeal Bangla Sugar Mill High School leading to his BA (Honours) and MA in English Literature from Jahangirnagar University (JU).

During his academic career at the university, his involvement in the political landscape was profound, particularly during the pivotal mass movement of the 1990's. His peers, recognizing his literary acumen, inspired him to contest from Jatiyatabadi Chaatra Dal (JCD) as the Literary Secretary of the JUCSU in 1988. 

Prof. Kayum's influence extended beyond the university as he served multiple terms as an Executive Committee member of the prestigious Officers' Club in Dhaka, a renowned meeting place for high-ranking government cadre officials. His repeated wins with the highest votes, underscore his respectable status and the trust placed in him by his peers.

Balancing his vibrant political involvement with an unwavering commitment to academia, Prof. Kayum excelled in both arenas, showcasing his dedication and passion for making a difference. His passion for teaching led him to excel in the BCS exam and choose teaching as his profession.

During his career, he worked in the former Govt. Jagannath College, Eden Mahila College and other colleges as an officer of BCS Education Cadre, and Private Secretary to State Minister for Finance and Planning of BNP led Govt. of 2001. 

Prof. Kayum's life is enriched with his extensive travels accompanied by his wife Neepa and son Nibir, to countries such as the USA, Germany, Switzerland, France, Thailand, England, Wales, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Singapore, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

This book highlights some unguarded follies of some politicians with the aim to rectify them. Their unguarded follies lead people to suffer a lot. Bangladesh faces so many political turmoil, for which corrupt political leaders are responsible. They made a beautiful country Bangladesh a hell. Military autocracy of H M Ershad and recent brutal autocracy of Sheikh Hasina orchestrated massacre in Bangladesh and snatched away a lot of lives when they demanded democracy.

During a long autocratic rule of Sheikh Hasina, main pillars of the country collapsed. The legislature body, the judiciary and other autonomous bodies also became partisan due to illegal and unwanted interference of autocratic government. The whole system of human life, human values, cultural and religious ideas, politics, economics, etc. in fact, a totalitarian human existence had been about to be destroyed by autocratic Hasina Government. At last a revolt took place and autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina was dethroned.

This book focuses on conspicuous information to the understanding of three times Prime Minister of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia’s life also.
