BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia called upon the countrymen to remain calm in the ongoing situation of the country. BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing Officer Shamsuddin Didar gave this information on Monday evening.
Earlier, after a meeting with Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also urged the countrymen to remain calm.
Khaleda Zia is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. She is under treatment in this hospital since July 8. According to party sources, she is expected to return home in a day or two.
After ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country, the army chief held a meeting with party leaders and civil society representatives in the afternoon. BNP Secretary General and member of the party’s Standing Committee Mirza Abbas participated in the meeting.
After the meeting, the army chief announced Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. He also spoke about the formation of the interim government.
Besides, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday also called upon people to remain calm and exercise restraint to maintain peace and stability in the country following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government.
“On behalf of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, I urge the country’s people to remain calm,” BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB quoting Fakhrul.
Fakhrul also urged the BNP leaders and activists to stay alert so that no one can cause any harm to people and their property.
