In a significant development of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Khaled Mahmud Sujon, a prominent figure in the Bangladesh cricket, stepped down from his position as director on Wednesday.
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BCB confirmed about the resignation to the Bangladesh Post.
The resignation news comes amid a period of upheaval within the board. Though, the reasons behind Sujon's resignation remain unclear, but it is likely to spark speculation and debate within the cricketing community.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin told the Bangladesh Post that he (Sujon) stated his personal and family affair is the reason behind of submission the resignation - Chowdhury said, “Yes, he submitted the resignation letter today stating that reason of submitting the resignation letter is his personal and family affairs. But his resignation yet be approved, after a BCB meeting the decision will be taken.”
Sujon, who has been an integral part of the BCB for many years, held several key roles during his tenure. He most recently served as the chairman of the Game Development Committee, overseeing the growth and development of cricket at the grassroots level. Additionally, he was also the vice-president of the Cricket Operations Committee, responsible for the day-to-day management of cricket operations in Bangladesh when for some times he also worked as national team director, interim coach and team manager.
Sujon's departure is the latest in a series of resignations from the BCB board following the change in government. Earlier, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman Durjoy have also stepped down from their respective director positions, indicating a potential shift in the board's leadership and direction.
As the BCB seeks to navigate this period of transition, the question of who will fill the void left by Sujon and other departing directors will be a crucial one.
Sujon, who played several important roles, was an influential director in Nazmul Hassan Papon-led BCB in the last three terms.
He was the mastermind behind Under-19 team’s World Cup triumph in 2020.
His commitment towards country’s cricket is unquestionable but sometimes he was criticized for creating conflict of interest. Despite being a director, he was involved in coaching profession in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He also ran a cricket academy.
