State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam (Titu) on Thursday urged the business leaders of Chattogram to keep prices of essentials stable.
‘We have fixed the duty of oil, sugar, dates and rice and a reasonable fixed price list will be communicated to everyone ahead of the month of holy Ramadan, which is expected will benefit everyone including buyers and sellers’.
Minister said after he exchanged views with importers of oil, sugar or other food in Chattogram.
However, I am assuring the countrymen that this market management is not only focused on Ramadan, but the price of daily necessities will always be at a bearable level.
He was addressing as the chief guest at a discussion meeting along with the local public representatives, departmental and district level officials and business leaders for the purpose of free supply of daily necessities and keeping the prices stable on the occasion of the coming Holy Ramadan organized by the Chittagong district administration at the circuit house conference room of the city on Thursday.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman presided over the meeting. Director General of National Consumer Rights AHM Safikuzzaman, Divisional Commissioner Md Tofail Islam, Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, Chamber of Commerce President Omar Hazzaz spoke.
Also, the representatives of various departments and businessmen briefed the chief guest about the general situation of the market and stock of products.
He said that 13 lakh 50 thousand metric tons of goods have been imported this year, which is about 3 lakh tons more than last year, it means we have enough imports and enough food stocks in the market.
The traders of Khatunganj have been supplying essential goods across the country with reputation for hundreds of years.
I want the traders of Khatunganj to keep that tradition. It took many years to build a Khatunganj but it doesn t take seven days to destroy it.
