Kanaighat Association UK, a platform of people of Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila living in the United Kingdom, strongly protested and condemned the killing of six-year-old child Muntaha Akhter Jerin.
The London-based organisation in its EC meeting held on Monday demanded exemplary punishment of the killers of the child.
Six-year-old Muntaha Akhter Jerin had been missing since November 3 and her body was recovered near her home at Kanaighat upazila in the early hours on November 10.
Muntaha is the daughter of Shamim Ahmed of Birdol Bhararifoud village under Kanaighat Sadar union at the upazila.
Police arrested some people in connection with the murder.
Muntaha’s body was buried in the mud in a puddle. After the arrest of a young woman, her mother took the body out of the puddle and dumped it in a pond near the child’s house to give a different look to the incident. The panhandling woman was caught by local people on the way to the pond.
The woman is Alifzan, 55, a resident of Birdol Bhararifoud village who is known locally as an alms seeker. Her daughter Marzia Akhter, 25, Alifzan’s mother mother Kutubzan Bibi and another man named Islam Uddin were also detained in connection with the incident. All are the neighbours of Muntaha.
