Kaliganj farmers receive pickups to carry goods countrywide

The sufferings of the farmers in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah are going to be eased as authorities sanctioned pickup vans to carry their agricultural products safely in the upazila. From now on, a total of over 420 farmers of 10 unions will avail the transport facilities for selling their produces at their doorsteps.

 Kaliganj upazila agriculture office of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah organized the pickup van handing over ceremony on Monday morning. Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar handed over the key of the pickup van among the leaders of Upazila producer organization management committee (UPMMO) for carrying their agro produces.

Objectives of the programme were to ensure quality of crops, convenient transports to markets and better prices countrywide. Upazila agriculture office in Kaliganj organized the programme.

Shikder Mohamad Mohaimen Akter, upazila agriculture officer (UAO) when contacted said the project titled agriculture innovation fund (AIF) -3 of national agriculture technology programme (NATP) phase 2, the pickup van was procured at a cost f Take 13.25 lakh including 50 percent government (GBO) money and remaining 50 percent by the POMMC. At least 420 enlisted farmers of the upazila under the common interest group (CIG) will carry their produced safe agricultural produces for marketing at convenient markets for better and suitable prices. 

POMMC Kaliganj upazila unit president Nur Islam of the upazila said the farmers will be able to ensure grading of their crops and carry the same anywhere in the country at a lest transport cost. They could receive suitable prices from their produces. The farmers for want of a vehicle had been facing troubles and compelled to sell the produces to the brokers at lower prices. 

Now each and every farmer will be benefited form the project pickup which will help strengthen their socio-economic state, POMMC President Nur Islam said.
