It is the fourth anniversary of the Sholakia militant attack on Tuesday (July 7). On the same day in 2016, a horrific militant attack took place at the check post in front of Mufti Mohammad Ali Jame Mosque adjacent to Azim Uddin High School on the west side of Sholakia Eidgah on the road connecting the entrance to the ground before the Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaat at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj. Two police constables, a housewife and a militant were killed with grenades, knives, and bullets by the militants.
Memories of the loss of relatives and the horrific events that shook the country are still haunting us today. The people of Kishoreganj have demanded effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such brutal and barbaric incidents as well as exemplary punishment for those involved.
According to court sources, charges have already been framed in the case and days have been fixed for witnesses. As the accused were involved in the case in different parts of the country, they could not be produced in the court. As a result, the judicial work of this sensational case is being hampered.
A total of 24 militants were accused in the case filed at Kishoreganj Model Police Station. Almost all of them are also accused of attacking the Holy Artisan Bakary. Of these, 19 were killed in gun battles by law enforcement at different times.
Due to this, it was possible to file a chargesheet against the five survivors. The accused are Zahidul Haque Tanim of West Tarapasha village of Kishoreganj, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi of Raghabpur village of Gaibandha, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan of Hazardigha village of Chapainawabganj, Anwar Hossain of Gandharpara village of Gaibandha and Abdus Sabur Khan Hasan alias Sohel Mahafuz of Sadipur Khablipara village of Kushtia.
It may be noted that the militant attack had taken place in front of the mosque adjacent to Azim Uddin High School on the west side of Sholakia Eidgah before the Eid Jamaat started on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr on July 7, 2016. Police constables Ansarul Haque, Zahirul Islam, housewife Jharna Rani Bhowmik, wife of local resident Gouranga Debnath and a militant named Abir Rahman were killed on the spot.
