A devastating fire broke out at two warehouses of Karim Jute Mill in Faridpur at around 1:30pm on Tuesday.
Initially it has been assumed that the fire might have been originated from an electric short circuit in the mill.
According to the mill authorities, about 200 bales of jute stored in the warehouse of the mill had have been totally burnt, causing a loss of several crore taka. After receiving the news, five units of fire service and civil defence from Faridpur Sadar, Madhukhali, Saltha, Boalmari and Rajbari districts arrived at the spot to douse the fire.
Zahidur Rahman, on behalf of the mill authority said, “The mill authority incurred huge loss caused by the fire.”
Nazrul Islam, assistant director of Faridpur Fire Service, said, “After receiving the news, I called 5 units of firefighters from the district and adjoining areas of Rajbari to douse the fire”.
Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Atul Sarkar said the total amount of damage could not be ascertained immediately. I will make an investigation committee. Later, steps will be taken in the light of the report submitted by them”.
