Police on Monday night arrested a Juba League leader from Ishwrdi in Pabna for allegedly spreading rumour over coronavirus infection on social media.
The arrestee is Abdus Salam, 32, son of Abdul Karim of Moshuripara village of Ishwardi and organising secretary of Ishwardi municipality unit of Jubo League.
Bahauddin Faruki, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, confirmed the matter, He said that police arrested Abdus Salam as he shared a post with offensive words against expatriates.
A case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act. He was produced before the court on Tuesday. Earlier on Sunday, Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary said that tougher action will be taken if anyone spreads mislea ding information and rumours about coronavirus through social media.
