JU student picked up by RAB

Boni Amin, a second-year student of Jahangirnagar University’s (JU) Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, was picked up from his mess room by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on Tuesday around 11:30 pm.

Boni Amin is a resident of university’s Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore Hall and he rented the mess as the university is remained close due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

 One of the fellows of him, who is also a resident of the same mess alleged that some men introducing them as the members of RAB-4 entered the mess and searched Boni's room confining others to another room. Later, they took him into a car.

Professor Farha Matin Juliana, chairman of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department in this regard said, I came to know about the incident through social media.  I informed the university authorities immediately. We are very concerned about the matter, she added. While contacted, Mozammel Haque, commander of RAB-4, confirmed they have taken Boni Amin to their office for interrogation.

"We brought him in for questioning," said the commander.

Asked about the reason, the RAB official said, "At this moment, we can't say anything in this regard. We will inform everything in time."

Parents of Boni Amin have been summoned to the RAB-4 office tomorrow, added the official.

JU proctor (acting) said, we have contacted with RAB-4 and they said that Bani Amin had been detained based on allegations.
