The agitating teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday burned effigy of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Faraza Islam demanding her removal. As a part of ongoing demonstration, under the banner of "Jahangirnagar Against Corruption", agitators brought out a protest procession from Social Science faculty building around 1:00 pm.
After parading different streets and buildings in the campus, the procession ended at central Shaheed Minar premises with a brief rally. After rally, demonstrators burned Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam’s effigy declaring her as invincible person. General Secretary of Bangladesh Student Union JU branch, Ariful Islam Anik, said, “The vice-chancellor has tarnished the university through unlimited corruption. Due to her dictatorship, the administrative structure of the university has collapsed.
From today, she will no longer be able to take part in any administrative activities and will not be able to sign any office order as vice-chancellor. Since today, we have been rejecting all office orders signed by Farzana.' Spokesman of the movement, Prof Raihan Rayne of Philosophy department said, “This vice-chancellor is shame for Jahangirnagar University. We have rejected VC, yet the she continues to work. We sent letter to Chancellor to remove Vice-Chancellor but sadly, no action has been taken yet. As a result, we are moving towards a harsh movement. We are announcing the existence of the corrupt vice-chancellor from the university through the burning her dummy. Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance, Students’ Union, Socialist Students’ Front and Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatro Odhikar Parishad participated at the protest march.
