From now on, there will be no Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations in the country. The government has finally decided to scrap the JSC and the JDC examinations.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the decision. According to a circular signed by Akther Unnisa Shiuly, deputy secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry, the PM has given consent to discontinue the public examinations for Class-8 students.
Earlier, the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the ministry sent the proposal to the PMO in December last year, because the new curriculum does not include a board exam.
The proposal of the ministry said, “There is no provision for these public examinations in the fresh national curriculum. Therefore, scrapping the JSC and the JDC examinations in 2022, 2023 and the further academic years might be considered.”
The government had included the JSC examination in the national curriculum in 2009 for general students. The decision drew huge criticism. But the following year, the government introduced the same test for madrasa level students titled Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC), brushing aside the concerns of all educationists.
The Covid-19 pandemic barred the government from arranging these two public examinations for the last three academic years. Students were promoted to the next grade on the basis of the results of final examinations in their respective schools. However, they received certificate from their respective boards of education.
