Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Sunday recommended ensuring cent percent use of block bricks in government construction, repair and renovation works by 2027-2028.
The parliamentary watchdog made the recommendation at its 39th meeting held at the Sangsad Bhaban here with committee Chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the chair, said a press release.
Committee members Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar and Khodeza Nasreen Akhter Hossain attended the meeting.
The committee suggested directing the local administration to the ministry for preventing the proliferation of illegal housing projects through real estate companies and not to issue clearances and allowing changes in land classification for environmental protection in Arial Beel.
It also recommended making a list of those allottees, which have not signed the lease agreement yet, in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Leather Industrial City and suspending activities of those tanneries temporarily along with giving instruction to follow the four instructions of the High Court properly.
The committee also suggested collecting the report and recommendations of the IPCC on climate issues from the representative of BUET and sending them to the concerned ministry for taking appropriate measures in this regard.
