The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suggested the ministry to take effective steps to curb rumors and fake news. It also asked the ministry concerned to set up a “fact checking and counter narrative of the fact cell” under the Press Information Department (PID) within seven days. We hope following the JS body’s recommendations, the Information and Broadcasting ministry will go for immediate action to prevent any rumour and propaganda against the government and its ongoing development activities. Also, the ministry concerned should take necessary measures according to the existing rules and regulations.

Using different social media like facebook, youtube, twitter, some vested quarters paid by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-Jamaat clique are engaged in spreading fake news about the ruling Awami League, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. And organised elements now are calling the Awami League government illegal. Uploading fake and fabricated news and photos to facebook and youtube they made several attempts to lunch sabotage and arson attacks to thwart the country's ongoing progress.

The law enforcement agencies have already identified the vested quarters but they are failing to take legal action against them. Besides, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has failed to bring the social media under control and make it transparent and accountable.

We are gravely concerned as the war criminals, defeated forces and killers of August 15 carnage, especially their descendants, have been intriguing against Bangladesh. Country’s people imbued with spirit of Liberation War must remain alert as the defeated forces have been still hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been entrusted with running the government consecutively since 2009. And she has been running the government with a specific target. And her target is giving economic emancipation to the people and establishing the basic rights of all with improving their living standard. Therefore, we believe the government will give a befitting reply to the conspirators who are trying to create unrest in the country by spreading rumour and resorting to violence.
