JPC holds memorial meeting on journos who died of Covid

Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Wednesday arranged a discussion commemorating its members who died of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the last two years.

The programme was held at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the JPC with its President Farida Yasmin in the chair, said a press release.

Around 52 meritorious and devoted journalists died during the coronavirus pandemic, said the speakers.

"The death of those journalists is an irreparable loss to us," they said.

The programme was titled 'Deep Respect for Relatives'. All the participants observed one-minute silence to honor their deceased colleagues.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, former President of Press Club and Editor of daily Jugantar Saiful Alam, former President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and BFUJ former Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan also attended the discussion.

BFUJ former secretary general Omar Faruque, journalist and freedom fighter Nasimun Ara Haque Minu, general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Mashiur Rahman Khan, JPC acting general secretary Mainul Alam, vice-president Hasan Hafeez, joint general secretary Ashraf Ali and late journalist Khandaker Muniruzzaman's wife Dr Rokeya Khatun were also present, among others.
