Russell and Rony of Miyapara have been accused of assaulting the son of a journalist in Gopalganj. Russell Sardar, son of the late Rahmat Jan Sardar of Miyapara area of the district town and Rony alias Mutkura Rony among others have established a reign of terror everywhere.
There are no heinous crimes including drug trafficking, terrorist activities, extortion which Russell-Ronnie terrorist cycle does not do. Although they were repeatedly caught by the police for these activities, they did not give up.
In addition the Russell-Ronnie gang has expanded their apathy. They beat little boys in the area tricking them and force them to pay money. There are such specific allegations. Parents are also afraid to go to the police or reveal their names.
The whole city especially Gohata, Veenapani School Junction, Chowrangi, Battala, Bara Bazar, Nichupara, Bedgram and Jami Masjid Junction in Miapara area, Chourasta Junction, Christian Mission Area, Layek Junction, East Miapara common people have become practically hostages to Russell and Rony.
Followers of Russell and Rony abducted Mohammad Iftekhar Ifti Ali, the eldest son of Gopal Mahmud Kabir Ali, the Gopalganj district correspondent of the daily Jawabdihi, at around 11:30 am on Saturday and took him to Majhigati village.
There he was locked in a room, beaten and later dropped off at the Layek More in the district town. Keya Mahmud, wife of journalist Mohammad Mahmud Kabir Ali, lodged a written complaint with Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana in this connection on Sunday.
Asked about the illegal activities of the Russell-Rony gang, Atiqur Rahman Pitu, councilor of the ward no. 4 of Gopalganj municipality, said that the common people were outraged by the gang. They don't care about any kind of law. Social degradation is increasing due to the activities of the gang.
Because of their extortion, drug trafficking and terrorist activities, we have become helpless. The conscious community also thinks that it will not be possible for the people of Gopalganj to lead a normal life unless the police arrest the terrorists Russell, Ronnie and others and provide exemplary punishment, he added.
