The 15th martyrdom anniversary of Faridpur Bureau chief and staff correspondent of the daily Samakal Gautam Das was observed on Tuesday (November 17) in Faridpur.
Marking the death anniversary, various programmes were arranged the home and grave of the slain journalist at Chandasbari village under Bhanga upazila in the district.
Members of Samakal Surid Somabesh, Prothom Alo Bondhusova, Tarek Masud Foundation and several other organisations paid homage to Gautam Das by placing wreaths at his grave in the morning.
Later, Tarek Masud Foundation arranged a cultural function and discussion at the home of the slain journalist.
Gautam Das was strangled to death at his office on November 17 in 2005. He was working as the Faridpur correspondent of the daily Prothom Alo from the very first of its launching before his recent joining to the daily Samakal as its staff correspondent and bureau chief.
On June 27 in 2013, a Dhaka court sentenced nine people to life imprisonment for killing the journalist.
Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal also fined them Tk 50,000 each. The convicts later filed separate appeals with the High Court challenging the trial court verdict.
