A Senior Magistrate in Chapainawabganj has allegedly threatens to shoot one of the working journalists in Bagmara of Rajshahi recently.
In protest against the threat, Journalist Altaf Hossain, President of Bagmara Press Club and Bagmara Correspondent of daily Inqilab and local daily Natun Provat, has complained against the Senior Magistrate through a press conference held at Rajshahi Press Club on Saturday noon.
Journalist Altaf Hossain complained that outside of his professional duty, the said Senior Magistrate moves to the village with pistol and has created a reign of terror in the village. He is allegedly engaged into extortion from the villagers with the help of an SI of PBI. He further mentioned that a news over the activities of the Senior Magistrate and the SI was published in the newspapers recently. As a result, on October-29 night at 8-00 pm the said Senior Magistrate threatened him (journalist Altaf Hossain) by brandishing pistol to shoot and kill him. As a result, Journalist Altaf Hossain filed a case against five persons including the said Senior Magistrate and the SI with the court on December-1.
Altaf Hossain claimed that the Senior Magistrate was trying to divert the case otherwise to deprive him from getting justice. Mysteriously the date of hearing of the case was made erroneous and he returned from the court without the any attending any hearing. He has demanded to conduct the case properly to ensure justice.Meanwhile, defendant of the case Senior Magistrate of Chapainawabganj rejected the complaint of threatening any one and said there is no question of creating any influence over the proceedings of the case.
