Highlighting the achievements of the country, the Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud urged the journalists to take the nation forward by showing their aspirations for the future.
He made the call while addressing an Iftar and discussion program organized by Chittagong Division Journalists Forum, Dhaka (CBISAF) at the National Press Club in the capital on Monday evening.
Hasan Mahmud said that in the aftermath of the pandemic, there is an attempt to create instability in Bangladesh in various ways by taking advantage of the instability that is prevailing in the whole world due to the Ukraine war.
However, a recently published World Bank report states that poverty in Bangladesh has decreased by 0.6 percent in 2021 as compared to 2020. Poverty, which was 12.5 percent earlier, is now 11.9 percent. Bangladesh's economy has turned around by tackling the pandemic, he added.
He said, "The World Bank has praised us. The image of success shows our dreams of the future and just like ambitionless people cannot move forward, as ambitionless nation cannot move forward. There will be criticism of the government, but also a picture of success to move the nation forward.”
The minister said that journalists are the conscience of the society. Journalists correct society through their writings. Journalists have also played an outstanding role in shaping the country from our independence movement to the freedom struggle, liberation war and post-independence.
Dhaka President of CBISAF Shaheen-ul-Islam Chowdhury chaired the event conducted by Secretary General Ayub Bhuiyan. Former President of National Press Club Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, Awami League Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Managing Director of Ekattar TV Mozammel Babu, Senior Journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity Nurul Islam Hasib were present at the event.
