Civil Society activists called upon journalists to play their role for eliminating child labour at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the importance of child labour-free country, they said there is government’s commitment in the SDGs to eliminate harmful child-labour by 2025 and child labour-free Bangladesh by 2030.
Addressing an event, ‘Meet the Press’, at Udayan Bagerhat office in the town recently, they said, “Journalists can create awareness about this issue. Their writings can also motivate the authorities concerned to take necessary steps for halting harmful labour of children.”
Journalists underscored on expanding the activities of Zilla and Upazila Shishu Kalyan Board and monitoring on child labour situation in the non-formal sector.
They also assured of extending their whole-hearted support in eliminating child labour. Rafiqual Islam Khan Alom, Manager (Programme and Legal Support) of INCIDIN Bangladesh, Rafiul Ali, Programme Coordinator of the same organisation and others spoke at the event. The programme was moderated by Sheikh Asaduzzaman, Executive Director of Udayan Bagerhat.
