A local newsman was hacked to death by a gang of criminals at Geodhara area of Bandar upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Ilias, 52, son of Muzibor mia, resident of Geodhara area of Bandar upazila and worked in a local Bengali daily newspaper named Daily Bijoy.
Following the incident, victim’s wife Julekha Begum filled a murder case with Bandar police with this connection naming eight people.
Police have arrested three suspects, namely Tushar, 28, Mina, 60 and Misir Ali, 53, so far.
The incident happened as Ilias was going home and when he reached at Geodhara bazaar then Tushar first rebuked Ilias and suddenly Tushar and his associates stabbed to Ilias with sharp weapon, said Ali Asgar, investigating officer of the case.
Locals rushed Ilias to Narayanganj General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
According to the case details, the plaintiff stated Ilias became an enemy of a gang led by Tushar who were involved criminal activities including drug peddling, and providing household gas connection illegally. He published several reports on the gang’s criminal activities. Polash, a nephew of the victim, said as his uncle published news on narcotics frequently, drug peddlers killed him. Police, however, said they are yet to find the motive behind the killing.
