Joint efforts sought to ease traffic jam

In order to resolve the traffic congestion in the Mymensingh City Corporation area, the City Corporation and the district administration were requested to play a joint effective role.  

Mymensingh divisional officials made such remarks in the divisional development coordination committee meeting held at the conference room of the divisional commissioner's office on Tuesday (February 27) afternoon. Divisional Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia presided over the meeting. Departmental level officials were present in the meeting.

It was mentioned in the meeting that due to traffic congestion in Mymensingh City Corporation area two to three times more time is being spent than usual, people are losing working hours, they are not able to reach the destination on time.

At this time, it is said that to solve the traffic congestion in the city, sidewalks must be free from occupation and illegal parking must be stopped. Apart from this, a well-coordinated plan should be adopted for the movement of CNG, auto-rickshaws and rickshaws. Important intersections of the city, bridges from Shambhuganj and all sidewalks and illegal structures of the city should be vacated.  At the same time, Mymensingh District Administration and City Corporation should play a visible and effective role in eviction of illegal foot courts in Zainul Abedin Park in the city. Information on how many auto-rickshaws are required and available for Mymensingh City is requested to be presented in the next meeting. 

The City Corporation is also requested to submit short-term and long-term planning proposals for planned control of traffic congestion. Also, the Divisional Commissioner urged all the institutions to keep their office premises clean and tidy to strengthen the city's cleanliness activities including mosquito control.

Md Shaukat Ali, Additional Chief Engineer of Mymensingh Roads and Township Department, said that the necessary arrangements are underway to complete the construction of Kewatkhali and Rahmatpur bridges on time while maintaining the quality of construction work. He wants everyone's cooperation to complete the land acquisition process quickly. 

He assured that the work of Trishal-Bhaluka-Dhaka road will be completed by June. Also, the road department and district administration have been tasked to take steps to control trucks loaded with excess sand on the Mymensingh-Netrakona road.

Md. Abdul Awal, Supervising Engineer of Mymensingh Public Health Engineering Department, said that the infrastructure of Mymensingh Nandail Upazila Health Complex has become very old and has become unusable. Discussions are underway with the Public Works Department to continue the current work. 

Also, the physical infrastructure of the affected Union Sub-Health Centers and Community Clinics will be repaired at the earliest.

Additional Chief Engineer of Mymensingh Public Works Department said that the implementation of the Mymensingh Divisional Headquarters project is underway as soon as possible. Apart from this, the estimate of the work for the construction of connection road with Khaliajuri fire station has been sent to the higher authorities. Instructions have been given to complete all the ongoing projects with quality and on time.

When asked about the situation in Valuka Trishal area during the upcoming Ramzan season, the public representative of Mymensingh Factories and Institutions Inspection Department said that minimum wage structure has been introduced in the garment sector, but the wage structure has not been introduced in spinning factories. There is dissatisfaction among the spinning factory workers. A request was made to the police administration and the district administration to prevent any kind of unpleasant environment and to prevent any unpleasant situation in view of Ramzan. Also requested to contact Wage Board regarding implementation of wage structure.

Director of Mymensingh Divisional Livestock Directorate said that the National Household Livestock Survey-2024 will continue till March 11. He wants everyone's cooperation in the survey work. According to the instructions, the PPR vaccination program of this department is ongoing, he said.

In the coordination meeting held, the divisional commissioner told all the heads of departments that since I have to be accountable to various ministries, the departmental departments also have to be accountable. If we face any problem in the development work, we all have to solve it together.

District administrators of Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrakona, Sherpur, heads of all departmental offices, city corporation representatives and electronic media and media workers were also present in the meeting.
