A few new pictures of actor Johnny Depp as King Louis XV of France in the upcoming historical film Jeanne du Barry have emerged online. This will be Johnny's first film since his defamation trial against his ex-wife, actor Amber Heard. The actor’s first look from the film was released last year. Maiwenn, who has directed the film, will also star alongside Johnny as the titular Jeanne du Barry.
Maiwenn also co-wrote the film apart from directing it. Recently, she shared a picture on Instagram featuring Johnny in his costume--golden coat and a hat. Maiwenn also featured in the photo. She geo-tagged the location as Galerie des Glaces. It is commonly known as The Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles near Paris, according to a report on www.hindustantimes.com.
In another photo, a closeup one, posted on Instagram, Maiwenn is seen holding Johnny as they sat at a table, twinning in black outfits. Maiwenn rested her head on Johnny's shoulder with a sad expression on her face. Johnny had a shocked expression on his face as he looked ahead.
Reacting to the pictures, a fan said, "Congratulations, Johnny, for mastering yet another major role, in your repertoire of famous faces! I hope this movie is widely accepted." Another person commented, "This will be superb if this photo is anything to go by. Can't wait till it's been completed, have a feeling it's going to be a huge hit." "I know it will be another great one as always. Johnny you are my favorite actor. You're just awesome and amaze me at all your talents," said an Instagram user. "I’m so excited for it!! It’s gonna be so good and I look forward to seeing Johnny acting again!" read a comment.
PEOPLE, citing an industry source, reported that the film might premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May. As per Deadline, Jeanne du Barry was shot for nearly three months in studios as well as at several famous locations in France. The film follows the story of the King of France's last royal mistress Jeanne du Barry, who was born into poverty but managed to climb the social ladder using her intelligence to become Louis XV's favorite companion, as per the report.
Last year in August, WhyNotProductions and France Televisions revealed the first look of Johnny as Louis XV, in which his eyes were covered by a blindfold.
The film will also stars Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noemie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.
The project will mark Johnny's first film in three years. It also comes after his defamation trial against Amber. Johnny and Amber's defamation trial against each other concluded in June 2022, when a jury found both celebrities liable for defamation but awarded him nearly $8 million more in damages. The court fight started in 2018 when Johnny sued Amber for defamation because of an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post claiming to be a victim of domestic abuse.
