Family members of construction work labourers in Jhenaidah have been facing severe food crisis caught in the continuous lockdown following the global Covid-19 pandemic. Most of their family members are starving without regular food, said the labourers.
When contacted, Manirul Islam and Selim of Kanchandpur, Mzibar Rahman of Chandpara, Saheb Ali of Mathurapur, Ayub Ali of Aruadangi, Abdur Rahim and Bablu Mia of Beparipara, Azhar Ali of Jadabpur, Abul Bashar of Pobahati, Alamgir of Bhutiagati, Amjed Ali of Barokamarkundu, Abdus Samad of Baribathan Manirul Islam of Mahishakundu under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila said they have been passing hard time when there was nor rice or other cooking materials in their homes for last couple of days.
They said most of them had managed daily work for two to three days in last weeks when the government had imposed lockdown throughout the country. As the cement, rod and other construction materials selling shops and stack of sand, brickfields remain closed due to lockdown, the people had stopped the construction work.
The jobless people said they could not receive even one gram of rice or other items during the lockdown which paralyzed their lives staying at home for couple of weeks together. No one had enlisted their names to providing any assistance when they were going hungry, they said.
According to the labourers they can not gather for work at the centre point in front of Jhenaidah district post office intersection, the policemen chase them and advise them to stay safe at home.
