Huge employment opportunities for Bangladeshi health professionals like, the physicians, dentists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, veterinary scientists and other health experts await in the United Kingdom, (UK) sources said.
According to sources, professionals engaged in healthcare services will be able to apply for jobs in the UK by completing only an English course while doctors need a plumb test. The application must be submitted through an organisation named Future Perfect Health, a registered representative of the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK.
UK Expatriate Golam Mostafa, coordinator for Future Perfect Health (Bangladesh Region), said the UK's National Health Service (NHS) is a UK-based government agency and the largest employer in the UK. The NHS employs 1.5 million people in the United Kingdom and is one of the largest employers in the world. The budget for NHS 2020/21 is about 140 billion pounds or Tk 14,000 crore.
The a demand for more skilled doctors, nurses and other health experts in the healthcare sector has been created following Britain's exit from the European Union (EU).
“There is a shortage of 84,000 manpower in the UK’s health sector and, therefore, the UK Government has decided to provide unconditional employment for various positions in the healthcare sector from Commonwealth countries including Bangladesh”, said the UK expatriate.
Golam Mostafa also said that ‘Future Perfect Health’ with the support of the UK Ministry of Health the SHS is able to make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s healthcare and economic development through job training in the UK.
“It requires a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the concerned ministries of both the countries,” he said.
Golam Mostafa elaborated as saying, “Future Perfect Health will guarantee jobs in the UK for doctors, nurses, healthcare and other professionals at attractive salaries. At the same time, it will arrange training for different professions. This will create jobs for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in Bangladesh. They will also be able to take their families there. This will improve the quality of health care in Bangladesh as well as increase the flow of remittances.”
Coordinator of Future Perfect Health, Golam Mostafa, said, "If the Bangladesh government and the Ministry of Health take steps to implement this project, Bangladesh's health sector will improve and the country will be benefitted economically through foreign exchange earnings."
He said the UK would run its operations in Bangladesh with its own funds. No grant from the Government of Bangladesh will be required for this. Future Perfect Health, UK and CEN-Health Care Network will be able to implement this project jointly in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Bangladesh.
According to the source, apart from improving the health sector, ensuring of health care for all is the biggest challenge of Bangladesh in the 21st century. Bangladesh is committed to the World Health Organisation (WHO) to ensure good health for all by 2030.
It should be mentioned that every year several thousands of doctors, nurses, technicians and other health workers are passing out in Bangladesh. However, the government is not able to provide employment to many of them. Many are working in various private hospitals and health care institutions at low salaries. They do not have any training required to increase their talent and skills.
In this circumstance, the big challenge to the health service sector is also a training opportunity for all the posts in the health service sector, including doctors and nurses. Taking part in short-term employment and training in the UK to address this situation will help Bangladesh move forward economically.
