JnU wins Nasa Space Apps Challenge in Dhaka division

Jagannath University (JnU) has secured the title of champion in the Dhaka division of the Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2024, organized by the United States space research agency (NASA).

The results of the Bangladesh segment of the Nasa Space Apps Challenge hackathon were announced on Saturday. 

The competition took place both in-person at American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) in Dhaka and online. 

The winning team, Quantum Voyager, developed an innovative app designed to track satellites. The app notifies users when a satellite passes over their land, allowing them to easily download and analyze satellite data.

The members of team Quantum Voyager were students of the Computer Science and Engineering department of JnU.

Tajwar Asfi, one the team members, said, "This was our first time participating in the Nasa Space Apps Challenge and it was a completely new experience for us. From the beginning, we were determined to achieve something remarkable.”

“Honestly, we never expected to win the toughest competition in the Dhaka division. We dedicate this victory to the Computer Science and Engineering department of Jagannath University. Our next goal is to become world champions”, he further added.

In addition, students from Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Comilla participated in the Bangladesh segment of the competition. A total of 500 projects from across the country were selected to compete. 

The top 50 projects were presented directly in Dhaka, while the remaining 450 projects competed online during that two-day event
