Jagannath University Debating Society has won the title of champion in the Inter-University Anti-Corruption Debate Competition-2024. The competition was organized by Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) and took place over three days at the CCDB Hope Centre in Savar.
Dhaka University Debating Society finished as the runner-up in the competition.Main Al Mubashwir from Jagannath University (JnU) was named the Best Debater of the entire competition, while Ragib Anjum from Dhaka University (DU) won the title of Best Debater in the final round.
TIB's executive director, Iftekharuzzaman, emphasized the importance of debaters in the fight against corruption. He said that young debaters play a key role in achieving the dream of a "New Bangladesh," a nation free from inequality and corruption. Mohammad Touhidul Islam, the director of TIB's Outreach and Communication Division, expressed his gratitude to the 96 debaters and judges who took part in the event. The debate competition, which ran from September 12 to 14, was based on the theme "State Reform and Corruption." A total of 32 teams from various universities across the country participated in 87 debates on different topics related to state reform and corruption.
The winning team received a prize of Tk 50,000, while the runner-up team took home Tk 30,000.
This event highlighted the significant role of young minds in addressing the corruption issues faced by the country.
