The students of Jagannath University have threatened to lock the gates of the university if the vice-chancellor is appointed from outside.

The students came up with the disclosure after a demonstration on the university's Shaheed Minar premises on Tuesday.

The students said that all the vice-chancellors who have come here in the past days have only performed their routine duties. They had no focus on the development of the university, solving the basic problems of the students. It used to take years for previous vice-chancellors to identify the university's problems. Later, in the name of solving the problems, they looted crores of taka and left.

After the demonstration, Faraji Masum Billah, a student of the university said, "We have many qualified teachers to become the Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University." We should appoint only those qualified teachers who were with the students' movement as our vice-chancellor.

If any teacher of another university is appointed as our vice-chancellor without complying with our one-point demand, we will not allow him to enter the campus.

BM Tanzil Ahmed, a student of Islamic Studies Department said, "We don't want to see any guest bird as our vice-chancellor." Whoever is appointed as our Vice-Chancellor must be a teacher of our University. We should remember one thing that the teachers who opposed the movement of the students, even if they have hundred qualifications to be vice-chancellors, they cannot be appointed as vice-chancellors.

The Vice-Chancellor will be only those who have directly and indirectly supported the student movement
