Yeasir Muhammad Fahad :
Brahma School, an educational institution which was established in 1858 in Old Dhaka, was turned into a college in 1872 and re-named as Jagannath College. After 133 years of establishment as a college, the institution got recognition as a university on October 20, 2005. This year Jagannath University will celebrate its 19th anniversary as a university.
Jagannath University has played a vital role in the expansion of higher education in the country over the past 19 years despite many limitations in the campus. However, students of the university have various thoughts and ideas revolving around its journey. Today's presentation for our dear readers is centered around the students’ thoughts on the occasion of Jagannath University Day.
Shyra Haque, Department of Finance :
I have always liked my position in Jagannath University. The campus itself is historically rich, the performance is also getting better day by day. People might still underestimate Jagannath university, but I've seen many students shining like a beacon. New campus with improved facilities is on the way; therefore It's not a nonsensical thought when I say we'll be one of the top universities in near future.
Md Arifuzzaman Arif, Department of Political Science :
Even though it has been 19 years since Jagannath College has been turned into Jagannath University, the university has not yet become student-friendly. I want Jagannath University to be more modernized, where students’ accommodation, playgrounds along with international standards in terms of technology and research will be ensured. Better facilities and a creative environment have to be created for the students. As it is located in the capital Dhaka city, let it become one of the centers of education institutions in the country.
Amrita Saha, Department of Finance :
I'm having a good time at this university with friends, and my studies are also progressing well. I want this university where there's room for everything like - music, dance, theater, debate, religious celebrations like Puja and Milad Mahfil. A place without a diverse program can't really be called a university. I want my university in a place where other universities can idolize it for its diversified and inclusive programs.
Md Kaif, Management Studies:
Jagannath University is dear to me, and I believe its teachers can play a transformative role in shaping students' futures. If each teacher mentors just ten students, offering structured guidance on life, research, and academics, the university could overcome its challenges and rise to new heights. Despite limitations like infrastructure and hostel shortages, this mentorship model could greatly enhance the university’s academic and research standards.
