The people of Jhenaidah have been witnessing least yield of mango in the current season in all six Upazilas. Severe drought and unfavorable hot spell and alternative bearing of the fruits was mainly liable for the situation, said the farmers and the officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah.
Some mango orchard owners at Solemanpur village in Kotchandpur Upazila town said that they started taking care of their orchards before flowering. But they could not see adequate yield like last seasons. A filed level official of the DAE in Kotchandnpur said most of the orchard owners and farmers apply fertilizers and pesticides to protect their plants from pest and diseases. However, they usually go to the fertilizers and pesticides dealers for advices.
Sasti Chandra Roy, DAE deputy director at Jhenaidah Khamarbari said most of the commercial production of mango comes from Kotchandpur Upazila in the district. The bagging system of mango in Kotchandpur has a potential among the consumers throughout the country.
He also said the field level officials as well as horticulture officials have been taking special care about the plants, farmers and their farming activities to expand the mango farming.
