The detective branch of Jhenaidah district police had arrested an inter-divisional ringleader of dacoity from Faridpur on Monday night.
The arrested was identified as Alamgir Sheikh, alias Alamgir Matubbar alias Alamgir Daku, 38, son of Alam Sheikh alias Alam Member of Surjadia village under Boalmariupapzila in Faridpur.
He was wanted in at least 20 cases including dacoity, robbery, arms and rape allegations at many police stations.
Superintendent of police (SP) in Jhenaidah Ashiqur Rahman at a press briefing at his conference room on Tuesday disclosed it.
He said the police personnel in Jhenaidah had arrested nine following a daring dacoity at village on January 21 at a house in Ghoramara in Jhenaidah Sadar and at another house at Pobahati in Jhenaidah municipality.
But the mastermind Alamgir was untraced. The cybercrime investigation cell of the DB police had detected him and arrested him from a village at Faridpur Kotwalli police station at last in the night of Monday.
The district police boss said Alamgir was accused in at least 20 cases like dacoity, robbery, arms and rape with Boalmari, Madhukhali and Alphadanga in Faridpur, Rajbari, Jhenaidah Sadar, Goalando, Baraigram of Nature, Palong in Shariatpur, Kushtia model thana, Lohagora in Narial and Kashiani of Goplaganj.
SP said Alamgir committed robbery and other crimes with organized gang members in the locality and returned home safely. He had organized a number of
gangs at different places throughout the country.
