World water day was observed in Jhenaidah with a slogan to “underground water: unseen wealth, visible influence”. Bangladesh water development board (BWDB) and Jhenaidah district administration jointly organized the programme. To mark the day, a rally was brought out from the office of the deputy commissioner which paraded the main roads and ended at the starting point on Monday morning. Later a discussion was held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner.
Presided over by additional deputy commissioner (ADC (general) Selim Reza, deputy commissioner Manira Begum attended as chief guest. ADC (revenue) Razibul Islam Khan, BWDB executive engineer Rashiuur Rahman, sub divisional engineer Ashiqur Rahman among others attended as special guests.
The speakers expressed their opinion that the underground water is bei0ng decreasing faster when it was uplifted without planning. It has been throwing the globe towards an uncertain future where the people of the world might be affected badly for water crisis in next time.
They had urged upon the people to use the underground water for emergency use and stop misuse at any cost for ensuring adequate water for the next generation.
