Jhenaidah Mayor Cup Cricket Tournament was inaugurated at Harinakundu of Jhenaidah. Organized by Harinakundu Municipality, Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Rafiqul Islam inaugurated the tournament as chief guest at local Pilot High School ground on Tuesday.
The organizers informed that a total of 10 teams are participating in the tournament splitting into two groups.
Ward Number-1 and Ward No-3 participated in the 15 over-games on the opening day. To encourage the students and keep them away from the mobile phone addictions was one of the main objectives of the tournament, they said.
DC SM Rafiqul Islam while inaugurating the tournament as the chief guest said the students have been leaning towards the today’s havoc mobile phones addiction leaving their study in maximum time at home. Good games like football, handball, cricket and local games might help refrain them from doing the evil activities. He urged upon the guardians to watch the activities of their children and encourage them of involving in good work at their leisure times, so that they might grow up as good citizens.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Akter Hossain, municipality mayor Farooque Hossain, assistant commissioner (AC) of land Nirupama Roy, Harinakundu police station officer in charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman and panel mayor Siddiqur Rahman among others present.
