The surgeons of livestock offices in Jhenaidah have been checking pregnancy of cattle heads on a regular basis. The initiative was taken to ensure safe delivery and reduce the mortality of the pregnant cattle heads during and after delivery.
Farmer Shahidul Islam of Jugipara village under Shailkupa of Jhenaidah rushed at the office of the upazila livestock office to check the pregnancy of his cow. He said a number of his cows fallen victim of miscarriage in conceiving. It throws the farmers in trouble when the owners cannot realize the situation.
As the office has started checking the pregnancy free of cost, many farmers or cattle heads rearing farmers have been rushing there for their own interest. Another owner of a pregnant cow said he appeared to be sanguine whether his animal was carrying pregnancy or not. Further, the surgeon checks any other diseases on infections of the animals at a regular basis.
A source related the district livestock office in Jhenaidah said that the number of adult female cows is 525,861, of who about 120,000 was carrying pregnancy. Huge number of people rushing at upazila and district level livestock hospitals everyday to check up the health and pregnancy of their adult female cattle heads.
Veterinary surgeon (VS), also acting upazila livestock officer (ULO) at Shailkupa in Jhenaidah Dr. Mamun Khan said they attend the patients and check their ovary for maturity of pregnancy, heat etc, They further check the uterus of the cows to find out cyst.
The veterinary surgeon said a good number of cows, especially, female have been suffering from malnutrition and deliver child with least weight and good health. As they have been checking the health of the cows during pregnancy, the owners are advised to take care of the animals in time and provide adequate nutritious foods so that the mothers could ensure disease-free healthy babies.
Dr Mamun said they advise the owners to ensure greener grass as against dried ones and expand the green grass plots t their homestead or suitable land if any.
