World leprosy day was observed in Jhenaidah with due fervor. District health office in Jhenaidah observed the day on Sunday morning where the officials and the employees of the health office, non-governmental organization Welfare Efforts (WE), a number of lepers and human rights activists participated in the human chain at Jhenaidah Sadar hospital ground. They appeared with banner, festoon and other awareness materials.
The speakers in the human chain said once the leprosy was treated as a curse and the people suffering from the diseases was were dishonoured in the family and society as well. But the day is no longer when it was a curative ones and the people accept the lepers in the society. Civil surgeon Dr. Shuvra Rani Debnath, human rights activist Aminur Rahman Tuku, WE director Sharifa Khatun among others spoke. They urged upon all to come forward to make the society free from leprosy and some other diseases.
