The farmers in Jhenaidah have been passing busy hours in their Boro plots for optimum yield as they are receiving good prices from the paddy for last couple of years. Now they do not have enough time to gossip elsewhere leaving the Boro plots, said some of the farmers in Jhenaidah.
Two farmers Rafiuddin of Bishoykhali village and Anwar Hossain of Udoypur village in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila when contacted said they have started transplanting the Boro saplings collecting from the seedbeds on their prepared lands a few days back. No one of them has time to gossip elsewhere when each and every farmers is engaged in transplanting Boro saplings on their respective plots.
The duo said they had completed the production of tender saplings on their seedbeds to meet the demand on their Boro plots in the meantime. The will continue transplanting the saplings till mid February. They are expecting harvest the same in next April if the climate was favourable during the time.
According to the office sources of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah, they had set target to produce 376,940 tones of rice on a total of 92,260 hectares of land in the season where each hectare will provide 4.70 tones of rice. The farmers brought their 89,150 hectares of land in the district next season.
Upazila agriculture officer (UAO) in Jhenaidah Sadar Jahedul Karim when contacted said the farmers in the district are very sincere, active and caring in producing crops. Further, the filed level DAE officials have been encouraging them to apply modern technology and equipment for the betterment of the farmers.
