When the common people were passing hard time for want of food items during the “strict lockdown” following global corona pandemic, over 400 inmates of ‘Ashrayan’ housing project in Jhenaidah had received food items staying in their homes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jhenaidah Mozibor Rahman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer ((UNO) SM Shahin along with other officials delivered the food items, so that the inmates could celebrate the holly Eid-ul-Azha with their family members together in their new houses. The helpless and hopeless people now have been living in their two-room own pucca house donated by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina marking the birth centenary of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
When this Correspondent visited the panoramas housing project at village Baribathan of Paglakanai union in Jhenaidah Sadar, witnessed the colourful and decorated houses on the roadsides. As the inmates were informed that a journalist was intending to talk to them, the joyous women with smile expressed their keen interest to post before the camera willingly.
53 year old Fatema Khatun, an inmate of Fakirabad village in Baribathan said she was helpless when her teastall owner husband Abdur Rahim had died. Just then she received the house for her own. The colourful two-bed tin-shed house with brick wall had ensured safe shelter, she said.
Housewife Manwara Khatun said she along with her truck driver husband Zillur Rahman and children were staying at a rented house. When they received Prime Minister’s gifted house, have been saving the house rent and managing the family almost well.
Other inmates Nurjahan Begum, Rehana Khatun, Momeman Khatun, Fahima Nessa, Nazma Begum, Nasrin Khatun and some others when asked said most of the inmates in the housing project is either widow, divorcee, abandoned or ousted from the families took shelter in the Abashon project.
They said when the lockdown was gilling them in houses, feeling insecure for food and other items. Just then the DC, UNO and some other government officials appeared before them with rice, edible oil, sugar, vermicelli, salt, soap and other items like a blessings from the Almighty.
Having the Eid gift, the inmates had prayed for their Sheikh Hasina so that she could help the distressed people for more years. “It was a great Eid celebration for the inmates of Baribathan in everybody’s new houses”, they added.
Baribathan housing project management committee president Zillur Rahman and Secretary Rabiul Islam when contacted said the quality of their pictorial houses had satisfied all where they have been availing tow bedrooms, a kitchen and a washroom in side the house. It has been ensuring their safety and security round the when the poor and distressed people had been responding natural calls any where ignoring their privacy.
Paglakanai union parishad chairman AKM Nazrul Islam in his reaction said the housing gift of the Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina was a blessings for the people of his area where 93 families were accommodated smoothly in pucca houses. PM’s housing project had changed the natural view of the village and created a new city.
Jhenaidah Sadar UNO SM Shahin when contacted said they have been constructing PM’s houses at a cost of Taka 1.90 lakh which was Taka 1.71 lakh earlier. They have handed over 317 houses among the new settlers, while the remaining will be handed over within a month or two. He (UNO) has been working under the guidelines of the deputy commissioner.
Jhenaidah DC Mojibor Rahman when contacted said as the direction f the PM, he has been monitoring the construction and other work himself so that he houses might be of best quality where the distressed people with their family members will live with safety for years together. The inmates of the people in the Abashon projects have been praying for the well being of the PM so that she (PM) could lead the country for a long time for the welfare of poor and disadvantaged.
