Sathira Jessy is going to make a dream start as an umpire in the Women Asia Cup when she was selected to conduct the high voltage India-Pakistan match on July 19.
Jessy, who earlier was selected as one of the women umpires to conduct the Women’s Asia Cup Cricket to take place in Sri Lanka, has already been named as one of the match-officials for the second match of the opening day between India and Pakistan.
Jessy was overwhelmed having the opportunity to officiate a big match between India and Pakistan, as she thinks herself a very lucky one.
Jessy, who once dreamt to make a room in the international circuits could not believe that the dream would come too early, as her joy knows no bounds.
Overwhelming Jessy, tell the reporters – “To be honest I can’t believe it that I am going to be an umpire in the Asia Cup. Really dream comes true within a very short time.”
Now Jessy is eagerly looking forward to Women’s Cricket World Cup but she thinks that officiating in any big match is challenging.
“Asia Cup is the second biggest cricket tournament next to World Cup, so obviously it would be challenging,” said Jessy.
Jessy also very much aware about doing well in the Asia Cup, which would be a huge boost up for her to reach to another goal - to be an umpire in the World Cup. “All the Asian giants are participating in the Asia Cup, I was not in this occasion before, though I was in close touch with the previous edition of the tournament.
I saw, women umpires from Qatar, Malaysia, and UAE were conducting matches but there was none from Bangladesh.
I just set my goal to be an umpire in the next Asia Cup (2024).
“All will follow it strictly, so if I would do well in the Asia Cup, then World Cup would be confirmed,” said Jessy.
However, Jessy conveyed her gratefulness to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as they nominated her name to the ICC, who enlisted her at their panel.
