Bangladeshi umpire Sathira Jakir Jessy officiated in the recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka. She performed her duties efficiently throughout the tournament and was even entrusted with the responsibility of umpiring the India-Sri Lanka final.
After the Asia Cup, the former Bangladesh cricketer is now setting her sights on the T20 World Cup on home soil. The T20 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh in October.
Jessy appeared at Mirpur Sher-e Bangla Stadium on Thursday after returning home from the Asia Cup. After speaking to the media, she expressed her ambition to umpire the World Cup.
She said, “I’m optimistic and dreaming of it. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is also hopeful. But nothing is confirmed yet. There are opportunities. The World Cup on Bangladeshi soil is a dream shared by everyone.”
“It went better than expected. The first match of the Asia Cup was between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. The match was excellent. As the first impression was very good, it may have helped me secure the final as well,” said Jessy.
