JBIC governor keen to finance new projects in power, energy sector

Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid paid a courtesy call on Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Governor Hayashi Nobumitsu at JBIC headquarters this morning. During this time they discussed various issues related to mutual interest.

The Governor of JBIC expressed his interest in financing new projects in the power and energy sector of Bangladesh and said that the approval process should be simplified. The interest of Japanese companies and businessmen to work in Bangladesh is increasing. Of course JBIC's funding will increase in Bangladesh.

The state minister mentioned the areas of investment in Bangladesh and said that it is necessary to have an office of JBIC in Bangladesh. Investment opportunities in sub-sectors such as power generation, transmission, distribution, underground distribution systems, GIS sub-stations, power transmission systems in char or remote areas, smart meters, floating solar power plants, waste to power, wind power, solar grids, high capacity distribution networks etc. has been created We always welcome the use of advanced technology. Gas meters, Haripur re-powering project, some combined cycle power plants, LNG terminal, LNG based power plants, investments and financing in renewable energy were discussed during this time.

It should be noted that on December 17, 2020, the Memorandum of Understanding of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation was signed with the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The main objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is to finance infrastructure development projects and activities in power and energy. The MoU covers cooperation and financing in various sub-sectors of the LNG and gas value chain, renewable energy, hydropower and energy efficiency, power and energy transmission and distribution systems, waste-to-power etc.
