Jaya Ahsan will be representing Bangladesh at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, India. Four of her films will be screened at the festival, which will take place from November 19 to November 28.
Jaya's Hindi-language film, "Karak Singh," will have its world premiere at IFFI on November 22. The film is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and stars Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi alongside Ahsan.
Jaya is excited about the release of "Karak Singh." "This is my first Hindi film," she said. "The character is great. I was very excited when I got the offer to act in this film. I didn't even take time to say yes because the director is Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and my co-star is Pankaj Tripathi. I have always wanted to work with Aniruddha and Pankaj. Working with them, and that too in my first Hindi film, doubles the joy."
In addition to "Karak Singh," Ahsan's four other films that will be screened at IFFI are:
"Fereshte" (2022), "Putul Nacher Itikatha" (2022), "Ardhangini" (2023), “Dasham Avatar” (2023).
Earlier,Jaya’s “Nakshi Kanthar Jamin” was nominated for the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). She is excited to return to the festival this year.
"This is India's biggest film festival," she said. "It is important for me because it is the biggest film festival in India and also has significance in the global film arena.
"I would have liked it even more if I could go there with a Bangladeshi film. But still, I would say that the Iranian-language film that I am doing has Bangladesh as a co-producer," according to Prothom Alo.
Jaya also said that IFFI is a special festival for those who love films and think about films all the time. "It is a very different kind of joyful and important festival for them," she said.
"It is a great thing for a film to have its premiere at this festival. Many films from our country have also been screened at IFFI. I would say that if a film is in the competition section, it is even more enjoyable. I am happy if it is well-received. I work hard, so I am happy if it is well-received. This time, there is even more reason to be happy because four of my films are going. So, the festival authorities also congratulated me. They are also happy."
