Jaya’s ‘Alatchakra’ released

Jaya Ahsan starrer Bangladesh's first three-dimensional (3D) film titled 'Alatchakra' was released yesterday to mark the 50th anniversary of Independence. Habibur Rahman has made his debut as a filmmaker with this movie based on Ahmed Sofa’s autobiographical novel.

Jaya Ahsan has played the lead role of Tayeba while Ahmed Rubel has taken the opposite part as Daniel. 

 ‘Alatchakra’ is a widely discussed novel by Ahmad Sofa. It won the government grant in the feature film category for the fiscal year 2017-2018.  The story of the film revolves around Tayeba, a progressive woman with cancer, along with a Bangladeshi writer named Daniel, who took refuge in Kolkata in 1971. 

The film also casts Mamunur Rashid, Azad AbulKalam, Shilpi Sarkar Opu, Shafiul Alam Babu, Nusrat Jahan Jerry and others for different roles.

The autobiographical novel written in the context of the liberation war of 1971 is basically the story of the life of Bangladeshis who became refugees in Kolkata at that time. In Daniel's words, the novel is also an anecdote of his unspoken love for the hospitalized cancer patient Tayeba.

The shooting began in 2019 and ended at the beginning of last year. The post-production work was done amid corona pandemic.The members of the censor board decided to release the film without any cuts when it was first submitted on December 15 last year.

Jazz Multimedia, the production house for this film has reported that 17 theaters are screening 'Alatchakra' including three branches of ‘Star Cineplex’ and ‘Blockbusters’ with 3D in Dhaka while others are screening the 2D version. The rest of the halls running the films are:Shyamoli (Dhaka), Cinescope (Narayanganj), Sugandha (Chattogram), Silver Screen (Chattogram), Sangeeta (Khulna), Sky View (Cox's Bazar), Purabi (Mymensingh), Modern (Dinajpur), Oviruchi ( Barisal), Shapla (Rangpur), Sena (Savar), Borsha (Joydebpur), Chandrima (Sreepur).

"The film tells a beautiful story, my country's movie has been released after a long while" saidJaya Ahsan adding that the audiences will surely be able to relate to our history it depicts. “Everyone will be expected to come to the theater following the measures to keep safe since we’re going through Covid-19 pandemic.”
