Dhallywood popular actress, four times National Film Award winner Jaya Ahsan who is currently busy working in Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali films has played the role of Jibanananda Das’s wife Labanya Prabha Das’s character in her upcoming film titled ‘Jhora Palok’.
Directed by Sayatan Mukherjee the film is based on the life and works of poet Jibanananda Das. The shooting of the film has started long ago. It is learnt that the film will be released in Kolkata Cinema Hall next February, the month of the poet's birth.
Along with Jaya Ahsan the film also features Kolkata actor and producer Bratya Basu and Rahul Arunoday Mukhopadhyay, have played the roles of Jibanananda Das in 'Jhora Palok'. Besides, Debshankar Haldar has played the role of poet Sajanikanta Das, Kaushik Sen has played the role of poet Buddhadev Basu and Supriya Dutt has played the role of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Biplab Bandopadhyay is in the Bengali panorama section.
Director Sayantan Mukherjee has announced plans to release 'Jhora Palok' in Kolkata as well as Bangladesh. He said, 'Bangladesh is involved in many parts of Jibanananda Das's life. As a result, we are trying to go to the people of Bangladesh with the work.
The promo of the film ‘Jhora Palok’ published on Saturday Dec 25 and it will be screened for the first time at the Calcutta International Film Festival in January next year before its release in cinemas.
Regarding the film, Jaya Ahsan said, “Labanya Das was a great inspiration for Jibanananda Das and that has been shown in the film.”
Bratya Basu and Jaya Ahsan for the first time have acted together for a film 'Jhora Palok'. Expressing his experience of acting with Jaya, Bratya said, "The solitude and violence that the poet's couple had at the same time, is reflected in me and Jaya's chemistry."
