Miscreants shot and killed a Jubo League activist early Friday morning in Jashore Sadar Upazila. The victim, Mohammad Ali, 28, was returning home after celebrating the election victory of Touhid Chakladar Fontu, who won as chairman with the motorcycle symbol.
The attack occurred at 3:30 am early Friday in the Bahadurpur Tatultala area. Ali, the son of Abdur Rahman from Bahadurpur village, was chased by 4-5 youths, who then shot him in the head and fled the scene.
District Jubo League member secretary Rentu Chakladar confirmed to The Daily Star that Ali was an active member of their group. According to police and local sources, Ali was attending a celebration event in the area. On his way home, he was ambushed and shot.
Locals rushed Ali to Jashore General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Md. Suzayet Hossain, a doctor in the hospital's emergency department, reported that Ali had two bullet wounds in his head and one in his leg.
Following the incident, Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain and other law enforcement officials, including RAB, visited the scene.
Jashore Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzak stated that multiple police teams are actively working to apprehend the suspects. The severity of the crime is under investigation, and Ali's body has been sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
